Photos and Story by Tara N. Jones
For BaltimoreStories.com
Whether you want to find out about some of Baltimore's famous Jazz legends, or you're a kid with nothing to do after school, the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center has something in store for you. With its exhibition and Cultural Arts Enrichment program, there is always something to learn at the center. |
Located on 847 North Howard St., the center sits tall in the middle of Antique Row, boasting four floors of gallery and studio space. Showcasing several photographs and other relics connected with the African-American community's ties to jazz, the center enhances the cultural diversity of Mount Vernon. The after-school program serves to introduce children between the ages of 5 and 18 to several art forms, including music performance, dance, singing, drama and literary enhancement. The Eubie Blake center also hosts various other workshops and programs, including open-mic Poetry Slams, and holds Baltimore's Heritage Band rehearsals.
